Small Places We Love

In our year (1 year exactly on Sunday!) of being the Tatums we have lived in three different houses, on three different continents.  Each place has been completely unique and we have loved each one.  In each of our three little homes we have done our best to make it homey, loved, and a little haven for us and friends at little to no cost.  I think it's not about having a lot or even the best of everything, but learning how to be creative with what you have.  Even if it's a temporary home, it's important to add a little personal touch to make it home.  It's amazing how the smallest personalisation like a picture, vase, or new couch pillow can give everything a lift and put a smile on your face each time you walk through the door.

Our 3 Casitas

ALASKA
For the first three months of being married, we lived in this little cabin with the wood stove and mismatching carpet.  Every piece of furniture was borrowed from friend's storage sheds, mixed with some art, fresh flowers and house plants.  It was a happy little home.
AUSTRALIA

When we moved to Australia we stayed in a wonderful friend's apartment, a room with a mattress on the floor until we got our very own little granny flat out in the country.  This little place had flaws-- no heat in the winter, occasional floods, and would keep us on our toes fighting mould, but she also had big attributes that more than made up for it-- amazing pastoral views and incredible sunsets!  Since it was an open plan flat and we didn't have much furniture, we bought crisp, pretty bedding to brighten up the space and make home inviting to us.  We found an old dresser on the side of the road, hauled it home, and gave it a good scrub;  we really loved this little treasure even though we couldn't completely get rid of the old grandma's attic scent.
ENGLAND
At the moment we are living with David's parents in their lovely English home.  In our room we have what I call our 'radiator art.'  Two little pieces from a local artist that gives the room a bit of us.
