December 2012, Chugiak, Alaska
We sat at the kitchen table eating popcorn and cheez-its and talking about his day at school, when something sparked a memory in his little head. My nephew, face all light and smiles, shared with me what he called 'the most exciting news.'
"Titi, Jesus talked with me three times today!" and "The first time He said 'I love you' and then next two times He said my name and that He loved me very much."
"What does his voice sound like?"
"It's soft. And do you know what? All you have to do is be quiet and listen and you'll hear Him."
Only five and he teaches me so much.
November 2012, Nottingham, England
With David, brightly decorated gingerbread stalls selling hot rum punch and fudge, grills spitting and turning sausages, children, carousels, busty carollers, Christmas trees, "Jingle Bell Rock", fake snow--the Nottingham town square spilling Christmas spirit. My eyes feasted. And then I saw him: young, face upturned, mouth smiling, open, ingesting all this abundance, and in his hand a white stick, at his shoulder a friend speaking, telling him of what he couldn't see--his friend's eyes, his. I stood still crying, and watched him. He who had no sight saw the world with so much happiness and delighted in it. I turned to my husband, 'Let's be sure we see the world twice for him."
