Cafe Gratitude has been making me smile this week. Started by a couple who have a personal passion to live healthy, not only in what they put in their bodies but also in how they speak to each other, think and act, these cafes are founded on the principles to 'build community and encourage healthful living.' They partner with vendors, farmers, and the community to support living in a way that is mindful of our environment--- encouraging good stewardship of creation. To me, some of what they believe is a 'little-panpipes-with-the-woodland-fairies', but I think in many aspects they're getting it right and love what they're doing. My favourite is what they call 'I am Grateful', their community supported grain bowl. It's a dish that is for everyone and the price is donation based. It is their way of sharing the goodness of organic, raw food with everyone-- no one is turned away regardless if you can pay or not. "We love the expensive feeling we get from cultivating an attitude of gratitude."
Gratitude takes the little we have and makes it into more than enough to be shared.
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.
